Founder of Marketing Ninjas

Why marketing?
“I’ve always had a passion for business. As a teenager, many of my friends’ parents owned small businesses, and life really seemed comfortable for them. I decided at a young age that I wanted to be my own boss and set the pace for my life. I thought a great place to develop some skills was to go to college and take Business Administration.
That’s where I had my first taste of marketing and I was hooked ever since. I graduated majoring in Marketing & Management from the College of New Caledonia in Prince George, BC. Ever since discovering my passion for marketing, I’ve been intensely fixated on staying abreast of the latest strategies, technologies and trends that are shaping the modern business environment.”
How did you get started in business?
“I walked away from the corporate world in 2006 and became a full-time real estate investor. Within two years, my partners and I built up a $3-million portfolio and we did it all with a website, an e-newsletter, and good old fashioned networking. I was so intrigued with the potential of the Internet that I started to consume everything I could about Internet marketing. In my spare time I started creating and selling products online, designing membership websites, and learning how to drive traffic and compete online in a global market. I quickly learned that all of the skills I was developing were very transferable to any business, any size, and any market, local-based or global-based.”
When did you start Marketing Ninjas?
“When the real estate market cooled off and the economy went into a tailspin, it became very difficult to find great properties and money partners that still wanted to put money into the market. I became a little bit dissatisfied with real estate investing and decided to turn my focus back to marketing. I have a natural talent for systemizing processes and when I applied this skill to my love of Internet marketing, I was able to develop a number of results-oriented marketing services designed to help small business owners recognize the profits they’ve been leaving on the table for years. Within a year of unplugging from the real estate investment game Marketing Ninjas was born.”
What excites you about Internet marketing?
“I’ve always worked hard to stay abreast of the changes happening in the Internet marketing industry and one area that I am very excited about is Social Media. I see such huge potential with this medium that I began teaching entrepreneurs and business owners how to use social media marketing to expand their business. When it’s done right, it’s highly effective. I’m also regularly asked to speak about social media and Internet marketing at conferences, and I’m really fortunate to have quickly become recognized as an expert in Social Media Marketing.”
What’s one of your biggest accomplishments?
“In May of 2010, my partner Frank Campbell invited me to fly to Toronto to pitch a business I was involved in called AgriConnect.com to the cast of CBC Dragons’ Den for Season 5 of the reality TV series. It was an amazing experience and we had such a blast. It was something I’ve always dreamed of doing, and I can officially scratch that off my Bucket List. You can see some behind the scenes footage I took while we were in Toronto for the filming and see our clip that was on national TV at my Jeff Schneider personal blog.”
What drives you?
“My core values have a great deal of influence on my decisions. My Top 5 core values are: Balance, Family, Freedom, Independence and Contribution. It took a lot of self discovery to uncover and prioritize these underlying values. Now that I’m aware of what they are, they influence every area and every decision that I make in my business and in my life. My wife and two children are my biggest inspiration and I’ve become very protective of having balance in my life so that I can spend time with them. Freedom and Independence are the two values that keep me focused as an entrepreneur and driven to get results. Contribution is important to me and every summer I volunteer a week of my time to the Alberta Community and Cooperative Association Summer Youth Program, where I work with youth to inspire and motivate them and teach them leadership skills they take back to their communities.”
What projects are you working on now?
“Right now I’m finishing the writing of my first marketing book which will be released later this year. If you want to learn the secrets and strategies I’ve been using with my clients to help them establish themselves as the experts in their industry and fatten their bottom-line in the process, then you’ll need to get a copy of this book when it’s released.”
